Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk by David Sedaris

By: Carp Eyes Coming – Official book club sponsored by Joy’s Teaspoon Tea: Plum Crazy David Sedaris never fails to be funnier than I thought possible.  In his previous books like Me Talk Pretty and When You are Engulfed in Flames his comedy comes from his life and personal experiences.  The focus of Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk is a little different from his previous hits but clearly just as funny! Sedaris tells stories of the quirks, habits, and character flaws of humans through the hilarious actions and interactions of animals.  From a pragmatic lab mouse to a dog hairstylist who continuously puts her foot in her mouth the characters in the series of short stories by Sedaris highlight familiar human interactions while making the reader chuckle heartily!  Recently in an interview of Sedaris on the Daily Show this joke was shared, “There was a snail selling magazines door to door.  The snail approached the home of a baboon, who rudely kicked the snail off his front porch.  Two years later that same snail approached the baboons home again and said, ‘What the hell was that all about?!’ “This is just a taste of the hilarious antics of animals acting in human roles to highlight just how silly we can be! The best part about a series of short stories is that they are best enjoyed in small doses.  The book could be a quick read but by taking a story or two a night this book is just the right wind down at the end of an evening.  I enjoyed a new addition to the Joy’s Teaspoon family, Plum Crazy.  This black tea, mixed with refreshing plum and beautiful rosehips, is a perfect sipping tea!  Plum Crazy is also not a bad way to describe Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk (and yes this play on words was planned from the very beginning, take that Sedaris!).
