10 Tea Party Ideas to Promote National Hot Tea Month by JT Herself A few days back, we posted an excellent article giving 13 ways to celebrate National Hot Tea Month.  I enjoyed reading how many of you plan to celebrate such a tasty occassion!  The very first idea listed was to "Host or attend a tea party!"  Don't get me wrong.  I love a good old Victorian style tea party every once in a while.  Hats, gloves, pinkies up...it's fun to pretend to be proper for a few hours.  However, celebrating Hot Tea Month definitely does not need to be that much work.  Following is a list of 10 most excellent tea party ideas:
  • Invite some friends over for a couple of pots of tea.  Sounds awfully simple, huh?  That's really it.  Good tea, good conversation.
  • Host a tea and cheese party.  Or a chocolate and tea party.  Or a "insert food here" and tea party.  Each guest can bring a tea and food item they think pairs well together and it will become a tea and food adventure for everyone.
  • India anyone?  Match the tea region with the local cuisine of the area.  For example, a Darjeeling or Assam blend paired with a curry dish.
  • Dessert Extravaganza - Choose a plethura of varying desserts and then serve spicier, heartier teas to help balance the sweet.
  • Less Conventional Tea Drinkers - Pick a movie, sporting event, TV show, etc. and make a night of it!  No need to whip up mini sandwiches and fresh scones.  Believe it or not, you can drink tea with pretzels and hot dogs.
  • Red Carpet Tea Party.  The Golden Globes are just around the corner and what better reason to have your guests dress up like their favorite starlet!  You could even combine this with the "Drinking Game" idea and everytime a speech goes long or a dramatic tear is shed everyone has to sip.  All the tastiness with none of the hangover!
  • Bring the kids in on the idea and do an all caffeine free party.  PB&J and mini-pizzas pair excellently with sweeter roobios blends!  The stuffed animals and mini tea sets will be put to good use and you might be surprised at the fine palette your little one posseses.
  • White Elephant Tea Party - Everyone can bring a tea blend and gently used cup.  After everyone has had a chance to do some taste testing of their own...you can swap the teas and cups.  It's like getting what you actually wanted in a Secret Santa swap.
  • Virtual Tea Party - Tea is a great reason to get together with friends and family.  However, sometimes the miles apart can get in the way!  Why not host a virtual tea party on a video chat site like Skype?  Great conversation, great tea, none of the house cleaning!
  • January is not just National Hot Tea Month.  January 20th is Penguin Awareness Day, January 21st is National Hug Day, January 23rd is National Pie Day and January 28th is National Kazoo Day.  Why not pair up your favorite tea with one of these days?  Do you know how much fun could be had with a saucy black tea and a kazoo?
Did we miss something incredibly cool?  Send us a note...we can add to the list and share with the class!
