The holidays are rapidly approaching and I feel like I went from standing still to Mach 6! Movember, Thanksgiving, Christmas, a handful of important birthdays and a holiday work party for the Mr. and I am one busy woman. However, there are a couple of dates in the next week that I think are worth the mention!
#1 - Nov. 26th is Shop Small Saturday. Why is this important? Because small business supports 99% of the United States work force. Considering our current economic state, I'd say that's reason enough, but here are a few more:
Money spent with small businesses supports your LOCAL economy.
You don't have to get up at midnight after eating 3 pounds of turkey to get in line and wait in the cold.
Small businesses provide unique products, with incredible customer service, all while earning a smaller profit than Fortune 500 companies.
It can be eco-friendly if you are buying local products from local producers.
And if these aren't enough...
American Express cardmembers can register to receive a one-time $25 statement credit if they use their American Express card and spend at least $25 at a small business on November 26.
#2 - November 28th is Green Gift Monday. While I plan on going into more detail about Green Gifting this holiday in a later post, I love what this group is doing! Nevermind the fact that you can adopt a coral reef in the Bahamas or an Acre in Africa (how cool is that???). Take a few minutes to read through their resources and put together your plan of action for greening up your holiday! I've signed the pledge to gift responsibly this year and you can too!
